Central Reformed Church

One of the most valuable Gothic buildings in Transylvania is the Central Reformed Church situated in Cluj-Napoca on Wolves' Lane. It was built between 1486 and 1510 and since then is a unique historical and religious of its size and age. The historical monument was built in may stages, at first as a monastery for the Minorite – Franciscan monks.

It has undergone many changes and modifications over time. The church is known to be the greatest gothic construction with a single nave (hall church) from Transylvania and East of Europe.

It has a wooden ceiling and pieces of rare beauty, among which the carved wooden pulpit, made in 1646. It is made in the style of the Transylvanian Renaissance (Flower Renaissance).

The church imposes through its massiveness and through the dimension of the abutments, which give it the look of a fortress. Famous for its acoustics, it houses lots of organ concerts. In the southern part of the church are the ruins of the cloister, which functioned as a university college.
