Rapa Nui or the Easter Island situated in the Pacific Ocean is the most remote inhabited island in the world. “This marvellous mass, and strength, and power” (Anthony Caro) named Hoa Hakananai’a and translated in English “hidden friend” was made by the population of that small island especially for the Gods.

The community change their religious practices to new ritual practice. The main ritual of this religion was an annual competition. A man had to compete for the capture of a first sooty tern egg of the season. The victorious one would then become the Birdman which represents the creator god. After that he would live for one year in isolation, growing his nails and shaving his hair.
